The New Atheists
Tuesday, December 02, 2008 :: Brad Van Fossen

Ever since a member of First Church asked me about a new book by atheist Richard Dawkins about a year ago, I've been watching the debate between the so-called New Atheists
(Dawkins and Christopher Hitchens and now talk-show host Bill Maher with his film Religulous) and those who respond to them. If there is one book I'd read from the responders, it would be The Dawkins Delusion?: Atheist Fundamentalism and the Denial of the Divine by Alister E. McGrath and Joanna Collicutt McGrath. But since I don't have the time or money for that right now, I settle for articles that cross my path now and then. This short piece by Will Deuel http://www.umportal.org/article.asp?id=4438 appeared in the United Methodist Reporter recently, and I recommend it to you. It's not a scholarly piece, but it's a good summary of what the new atheists are saying and what a sensible response from people of faith can be.
